Design, Art and Nature

I bring to the environment my twenty five years of professional experience as an interior designer and fine arts painter.  Many of those years were spent in the Southwest, where I was continually awed by spacious landscapes and the dramatic colors and textures of nature.  These elements have greatly influenced both my interior design and my artwork. 

Nature has a vast influence on design, and, more importantly, on the healing process. Color, texture, light, water and other elements of nature have been shown to aid the healing process, and in general to provide an atmosphere of serenity and calm.  These attributes may be expressed through materials such as textured wallcovering or upholstery fabrics, natural lighting, wood finishes, or nature patterns etched on glass.

By the same token, nature is never static, and the color of sunsets, the rustling of leaves, the movement of clouds, and the rippling of water capture the attention and prevent boredom.  Some of these characteristics can be captured by the use of patios and fountains, fireplaces, aquariums, views to outdoor nature scenes, or kinetic artwork.

Through the combination of practical spatial design, references to nature, sustainable finishes and furniture, and buoyant color, JALARTS can provide a nurturing and supportive environment which uplifts the spirits of all of our clients.

Sustainable Interior Design -  is the healthy and responsible way of the future.  I use sustainable materials that are friendly, non-toxic, and have a long life cycle.

Color Consulting - Whether creating an accent wall, brightening up a room or highlighting architectural features, the right combination of colors can create depth, variety and excitement, and make a space sing.

Art - My paintings are nature-oriented and brightly colored.  People often purchase them to complement a space which I have designed.  I also provide art consulting for other fine art needs and supervise art selection through outside art consultants. 

Project Management - It is important that the design of a space, whether institutional, commercial or residential, is a reflection of its inhabitants, so I pay close attention to all that my client has to say about their needs throughout the design process.  I execute the project with thorough and meticulous attention to details, deadlines and budget.
